Day 8

In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created.

Might as well continue with the challenge. Day 9 is An Act of Kindness, but I think I'll get there once I've been to the fannish wish list stuff. This is totally not so I can get to my secretly favourite challenge faster. (After all, I could have done it when I saw it two days ago, but as I said, I didn't think I'd be doing the challenge this year.

As always, I'll be limiting myself to fic from last year, since you're all probably sick of hearing me self-rec my Gintama fic The Chrysanthemum Vow every year. (At this point idek if it's even a good read anymore, I just have fond, nostalgic feelings.) I'm also limiting myself to finished fic, over 1k, and from Harley's POV. Otherwise my pool is too vast.

Self-recs ahoy! )

Day 10 - Create a fanwork

Fanwork means anything you, a fan, creates. A new community, a rec list, a drabble or ficlet, a vid, a drawing, a meta, an icon, a critical essay, a podfic, a fanmix, a picspam, a review, a ship manifesto, a fannish cake or scarf . . . There is no limit to what the creative fannish mind can create because WE ARE SPARTA! Oh, wait. *g*

omg I did it! )

Day 13

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

I recently went back to review last year’s goals and I basically met all of them except the most important one, heh.

Let’s see if posting openly about it is setting me up for failure, the way it did in recent years. Putting these in effect after March. Until then, 2017′s framework is good enough.

  1. Post more than 152k.
  2. Post a fic of more than 1,667 words every month (2017′s best average, although I’ve watered it down after October).
  3. Fill more than 25 Harley Quinn prompts (2016 best). Past fills.
  4. Fill all the prompts that are still sitting in my inbox.
  5. Continue/finish WIPs. (Vague, I know. There’s currently a WIP list languishing in my tumblr queue and it is long. Especially since there’s only one WIP I actually consider started.) More precisely:
    1. Finish the first part of the Dance rewrite.
    2. Finish the first chapter of the Roadtrip AU.
    3. Finish the third chapter of Fingers to the head.
  6. Improve in areas I’m still no good at, like setting or world building or character history and stuff.
  7. More generally, I’d like to try my hand at darker themes this year (and at more unapologetic pr0n, not that these things are mutually exclusive).

If you’re interested in seeing me achieve my goals (especially on the more disturbing front), let me take this opportunity to plug my Giftfics post again. Basically, I’m looking for DCU fans who wouldn’t mind me gifting them my works on AO3. I've gathered a gazillion of prompts (most of them Harley Quinn, Jason Todd and/or Dick Grayson-related, though I’m still not up to scratch on the latter two) from all over the place, but not all of them come with a recipient attached.

Having recipients for my fics has helped me and my output tremendously in the past and it would be a great honour for me if I could add more people to the list, so I don’t have to bother the same two people all the time. :’) (It's also part of my wish list, for those folks from the Fandom Snowflake Challenge who are seeing this ;D)

Day 1 * Day 3 * Day 4 * Day 7 * Day 8 * Day 9 * Day 11

Day 12

In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a podfic, an icon, a sketch, a meta, or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Cross stitch. Draft an essay about a particular medium. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of book you love, a ship manifesto, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Create something.

I facepalmed when I saw this challenge today, because just hours before I had posted some one sentence fic to my tumblr (Harley/Ivy, Jason/Roy, Gimli/Legolas, Keith/Lance and Barry/Victor if you wanna have a read). But since I created them before the challenge went up I thought it'd be cheating to submit them. So instead, have a completely new one, which incidentally is also work #444 on AO3.

444. Love you best when you are savage and bitter (Batman: The Telltale Series - John Doe/Harley Quinn, T; 500w)
Tags: Knifeplay and bloodplay of sorts
Summary: "What's that hideous thing you're wearin'?" she asks, face mirroring the disgust in her voice.

Sidenote: I've always wanted to use this challenge to create something outside of my comfort zone, but January so far hasn't been the right time for that. Let's see what January holds next year. In the meantime, I'll be continuing to write fic.

Day 8

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Initially, I didn't think I could come up with /pieces/ of a canon and/or express my thoughts into words because my brain didn't work. I considered gushing Wooden Overcoats, because that is giving me a lot of joy these days, but I love it as a whole and wouldn't have been able to single out a part of it.

And then I played Batman: The Telltale Series again today. And it reminded me how much I love the Harley/Joker relationship in it. Or the Joker figure in general. I'm not even sure in how far this counts as original, because it's more of a remix in a way, but it's officially snactioned, so here goes:

Cut for spoilers and stuff )

Anyway. This is my rambly and inadequate attempt at putting into words what I love John and his relationship with Harley.

Day 9

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

It's funny. I have over 400 fics on AO3, but there's only a handful I might consider reccing. Most of them I've recced in previous years. (The Chrysanthemum Vow is my go-to fic rec, because although it's four years old, I haven't done any better yet.) Anyway, things from 2017:

1. I wear these scars, I own these mistakes: Kavinsky, Ronan/Adam (The Raven cycle, T; 2,733 words; 28 August 2017)
Rehab AU. A year after the fateful Fourth of July party, Kavinsky suddenly comes out of the woodwork to apologize for what he's done.

I've written a LOT of TRC this year, but I think this one's my fave. Honourary mention to "I've tasted hell and it tastes just like you" (Rovinsky pwp), because that's the one that actually helped me break into writing for the fandom, and "Stay with me, I'll show you paradise" (same), which is its companion, but which I'm a tad fonder of because it shows Kavinsky a little more broken.

2. Fingers to the head, pointed like a gun: Harley Quinn/Jason Todd (Batman: Arkham Knight, T; 9.5k) 2/?
Post-game WIP. Jason and Harley team-up.

I posted the second chapter in October after a year of "hiatus" - and I wrote most of the chapter in a day, a fact which still boggles me. I'm not 100% satisfied with the ending, but eh, I might scrub it a bit when I post the third chapter.

3. here is a sing song of all the things you make me think of: Harley/Dinah/Ollie (Injustice: Gods Among Us, T; 2,565 words; 01 April 2017)
Harley loves the spring, with its colors and feelings of love it brings out in everyone.

More or less a stream of consciousness fic from Harley's pov. Rambling is one of my favourite things to do and here Harley's rambling on about the colour green and its associations for her.

Honourary mention to "Turn my secrets inside out and you will find me" (DCEU: Harley Quinn/Wonder Woman), which is another rambly fic dealing with Harley's crush on Diana. My last work of 2017.

Day 7:

In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are.

This is a tough one, because I prefer comments on my fic rather than on my person. However, I promised myself I'd work on more positivity this year, so this will be a start. (Though really, if you want to tell me which of my works is your favourite, I’d be more than thrilled.)

Go on, make me cry with your kindness, I dare you.

Day 3

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

1. Verschlimmbessern (8191 words) by MissNaya
Chapters: 2/?
Fandom: DCU
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Rape/Non-Con
Relationships: Dick Grayson/Roman Sionis, Dick Grayson/Jason Todd/Bruce Wayne (referenced), Roman Sionis/Jason Todd (past), Dick Grayson/Jason Todd
Characters: Dick Grayson, Roman Sionis
Additional Tags: Dubious Consent, False Identity, Implied/Referenced Abuse, Dom/sub, Daddy Kink, Spanking, Dirty Talk, Incest Play, Fingerfucking, Rough Sex, Masochism, Rimming, Creampie, Sloppy Seconds, Angst and Porn, Face-Sitting
Series: Part 2 of Blurry (Extended)
Summary:

Jason is pulled off of active duty when Bruce becomes concerned for his mental health. Dick temporarily takes up the Red Hood mantle in his place, in an attempt to finish what he started. It doesn't take long for him to get in over his head.

Bookmarker's Notes:

Things I adore: Dick shocked and angry at learning how Roman has been using Jason, Dick resenting his beauty but loving the attention all the same, Jason being so jealous and envious of Dick, (Dick wanting both Jason and Bruce). Dirty-bad-wrong in all the right ways!

2. this and this Slade/Dick fanart. NSFW.

3. i quit my dancing just to be around you (2075 words) by weird_bird
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: DCU (Comics), Red Hood and the Outlaws (Comics)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Akila of Bana-Mighdall/Artemis of Bana-Mighdall
Characters: Akila of Bana-Mighdall, Artemis of Bana-Mighdall
Additional Tags: Pool Sex, Breathplay, Ass Play, Humiliation
Summary:

Untying the leather band from around her wrist, Akila twists her hair up onto her head and secures it there. The suggestion of her smile pins Artemis. “Where do you want to kiss me?” She folds one leg over another, posture perfect. Artemis is not the most lyrically-inclined of the Bana-Mighdall Amazons, but as their poets say, sometimes a goddess shall appear in the flesh.

Day 4

In your own space, create a fannish wishlist. No limits on size or type of fanwork; just tell us what you’d like to see. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. And if you grant a wish, do the same thing!

Basically reiterating my wish lists from the past, because some wishes are timeless.

  1. Coverart/banners. Like every year, I could use banners to post with my fic (like this e.g.). Could use
    1. one reading "monthly fic roundup" or some such (example)
    2. another one for Harley Quinn and different Harley pairings (Poison Ivy, Dinah Lance, Wonder Woman, Kate Kane, Jason Todd, Dick Grayson, Joker, etc.)
    3. one for Jason Todd, Dick Grayson as well as Dick/Jason
    4. one for The Raven Cycle/Kavinsky fic

  2. Pairing suggestions. I write a lot of shortfic for challenges/tumblr prompts, but often can't decide which pairing to tackle next. If you want to combine the suggestions with prompts,I have a pairing list on tumblr (mainly Batman/DCU and The Raven Cycle), and have started a prompt list on Google Spreadsheets.

  3. Recipients for random gift fics in the Batman/DCU fandom. I have a massive amount of ideas. Last year, I started a call for people who'd be interested in randomly receiving fic from me in fandoms we both enjoy. Knowing there are people I can gift my fics to on AO3 actually helped me get a lot more done.

  4. Links to character/pairing-specific prompts you might want to see me write. From comment-fic, fandom-stocking, kink memes, comment ficathons, that sorta thing, because I can’t be in all places at once.

  5. A writing buddy/enabler. Someone to talk to about my TRC and Batman/DCU ideas. Would also be happy to play ping-pong with your ideas. Love doing that.

  6. Comments on works that don't have comments yet. By which I mean all works out there, not only mine (though I'd be thrilled if anything spoke to you enough to leave one).

  7. Permission to remix DCU or TRC fic.

  8. Kindness and encouragement for other creative folk out there.

Day 7

In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of a Broadway show, a movie, a concert, a poetry reading, a museum trip, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Compose some limericks, haikus, free-form poetry, 5-word stories. Document a particular bit of real person canon. Take some pictures. Draw a stick-figure comic. Create something.

Day 06

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include -a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

1. Coverart/banners to use when cross-posting my fic to tumblr (kind of like this one, just, you know, not quite as amateurish xD), because just posting the AO3 link kind of doesn't draw any attention at all.

Ideally, I'd love something that thematically goes together with each new fic or pairing I write. I have a gazillion of WIPs and ideas, so there would be a lot to choose from. Fandoms could be DCU (Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, etc.), Raven Cycle (Kavinsky, Ronan), and hopefully Sherlock soon too.

Suggestions:
  • Something involving the aftermath of New Year's. (My most current WIP.)

  • Something to do with Harley, Selina and/or grief.

  • Roadtrip au

  • Fingers to the head, pointed like a gun: Arkhamverse, Harley and Jason. WIP.

  • Artist AU, like Hidden here below the fracture (Raven Cycle, Kavinsky, Proko, perhaps Ronan if I continue).

  • Stripper AU. (For my rewrite of I dance like I got diamonds. Suicide Squad, Harley/Joker.)

  • Demon AU, maybe.

  • Something for Trinity Blood's Esther and Dietrich.

  • Or just a one-size-fits-all banner with just a crooked spoon on it, haha?

Sidenote on Harley: I prefer her with blond hair, but make an exception for Injustice-verse Harley's red and black ;D

2. Someone to contact when I need new graphics for new projects I'm working on. Alternately, someone to walk me through the creation of above-mentioned banners in about a month or two.

3. A writing buddy/enabler for Raven Cycle (Kavinsky-centric, I'm warning ya) or such DCU fandoms such as Injustice, Arkhamverse, Suicide Squad, assorted Batcanon, etc (Harley Quinn-centric). Maaaybe eventually one for Teen Wolf (Stiles-centric, but no Sterek), but we'll see about that. And for D.Gray-man, eventually.

I have an absolutely wonderful writing buddy in [personal profile] neurotoxia. We ping-pong ideas, discuss things we are confused about, beta for each other, and just generally do a lot of hand-holding. Hands-down my favourite time was when we were both obsessed with Sherlock and a tattoo AU of N's making, and were just spawning idea after idea for it. Some of which even made it into writing!

Unfortunately, our fandom obsessions have shifted and we don't write that much for each other anymore. Yet through that I noticed how important it is for my idea creation and especially for my output if I have people close to me who are excited about That Thing I am working on.

Now, this is probably a more utopian wish, as I couldn't even really make use of it right away. Too much RL stuff taking priority. /flops

ETA: Totally forgot! 4. Comment on a work that doesn't have any comments yet. Yes, it's always nice to get more love on an already well-loved fic. But sometimes it's those fics that nobody seems to care about that are the creator's secret favourites.

Last year's wish list.

I'm really looking forward to going through everyone else's wish lists! :D Will probably be bookmarking them all to read later, though.

It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I chose to go with works I created in 2016 that I feel no one saw.

1. she truly believes the lies (Batman: Arkham Knight - Christina Bell/Harleen Quinzel, T; 2,450 words)
Ordinary People AU. Nearly a year after their breakup, Harley is forced to contact her ex Christina with a special request: to pretend to be her girlfriend once more.

Reason: I generally feel like I'm no good with details, especially of the family background variety. In this, however, I managed to create a family context and had fun doing so. Since this is an AU, you don't need to know Arkham Knight specifically. You can just imagine Christina as a female Joker.

2. digging out stumps of old resentments (Injustice: Gods Among Us - Kate Kane/Harleen Quinzel, G; 250 words)
Noir AU, Prohibition. A rather unusual woman seeks out Kate for her investigative skills.

Reason: I have a fondness for the image of Harley as femme fatale in this.

3. Hidden here below the fracture (The Raven Cycle - Joseph Kavinsky/Ronan Lynch, Joseph Kavinsky/Prokopenko, M; 3278 words)
Artist AU. The one in which K tries to banish Lynch from his head. Through art. And fails.

Reason: Here I feel no one read this because (it's tagged Rovinsky... but Ronan doesn't even show up and it's one-sided attraction!) my summary sounds too cracky, which this thing is really, really not. It's a bit more moody and frustrated, because K has an art block. I'm just really fond of creative geniuses going ballistics because the one thing they feel defines them is not working for them anymore, and them not acknowledging the real reason they're frustrated.

Day 13

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

1. Anything But That (31817 words) by Skalidra
Chapters: 5/5
Fandom: DCU, Batman - All Media Types
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd
Characters: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake
Additional Tags: Sex Pollen, Trope Subversion, No Sex, Hurt/Comfort, Developing Relationship, Extremely Dubious Consent
Summary:

When Dick wakes up, tied to a chair and with one of the worst hangovers of his life, it's not the greatest situation. When Jason tells him that he'd been dosed with Poison Ivy's pollen, it gets worse. But the terrible situation isn't an excuse to accuse Jason of taking advantage, especially because Jason's feelings run deeper than Dick understands.

2. cw: torture

3. Epic Rap Battles of History. There's so many, I can't decide which to rec. My favourites:

- Deadpool vs Boba Fett (You're a Deathstroke rip-off)
- Son Goku vs Superman (Your powers have been boring since the 19-fucking-40s)
- Santa vs Moses

1. Try something new. (In life, in fandom, wherever. Try a new recipe, a book, or a new activity.)

2. Work on a WIP.

3. Leave feedback on a work that has no comments yet. (It doesn't have to be in-depth, something simple as "I enjoyed this!" will certainly make the creator's day.)

Admittedly, this challenge is the hardest and the one I like doing the least. It's wonderful to read about other creators' cherished works, because that love is catching. It's what fandom is -- or should be at least -- all about. Sharing what we love. So for me, my works are more about sharing the love of a character, a pairing, a kink or whatever. So boiling it down to specific works is rather hard.

So, I mentioned The Chrysanthemum Vow the previous years; I think that one's getting old. So here's three of my least-viewed things I wrote in 2015 that I actually like. They're all very niche, so that explains the lack of exposure.

1. I'd cut your name in my heart (Thrillkiller: Hayley Fitzpatrick/Bianca Steeplechase; T)
Summary: Had not Bianca's sinful smile on the tabloids caught her eye, Hayley would never have imagined herself slipping into Gotham's criminal underbelly.
This is DC Elseworlds' Harley/fem!Joker which I just had to write.

2. It's bigger than the sum of us (DC Animated Universe: Harleen Quinzel/Wally West; M)
Summary: Dating her is really super, if only he could shake the niggling doubts about her motives.
Hi, I have a problem and it's Harley Quinn prompts. I wanna fill them all. And through the writing of this, poof, I gained another OTP.

3. contagion (a landscape of twilight and thorns) (Flashpoint (Comics)/Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox: Joker/Yo-Yo; T)
Summary: It's blood that leads her to the Joker, and madness that binds.
Yes, I have a thing for female Jokers 8D

3. Writing requests or help choosing which of my many prompts to tackle next. If we have fandoms in common, do link me to your Dear Author letters, your requests at prompt memes, ficathons, etc. It hurts me that there are so many lovely prompts out there that go unfilled.

ETA: 4. People who'd let me remix their stuff.
