Fandom Snowflake: Day 4 - Fannish Wish List

Day 4

In your own space, create a fannish wishlist. No limits on size or type of fanwork; just tell us what you’d like to see. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. And if you grant a wish, do the same thing!

Basically reiterating my wish lists from the past, because some wishes are timeless.

1. Coverart/banners. Like every year, I could use banners to post with my fic (like this e.g.). Could use
   
   1. one reading "monthly fic roundup" or some such (example)
   2. another one for Harley Quinn and different Harley pairings (Poison Ivy, Dinah Lance, Wonder Woman, Kate Kane, Jason Todd, Dick Grayson, Joker, etc.)
   3. one for Jason Todd, Dick Grayson as well as Dick/Jason
   4. one for The Raven Cycle/Kavinsky fic


2. Pairing suggestions. I write a lot of shortfic for challenges/tumblr prompts, but often can't decide which pairing to tackle next. If you want to combine the suggestions with prompts,I have a pairing list on tumblr (mainly Batman/DCU and The Raven Cycle), and have started a prompt list on Google Spreadsheets.


3. Recipients for random gift fics in the Batman/DCU fandom. I have a massive amount of ideas. Last year, I started a call for people who'd be interested in randomly receiving fic from me in fandoms we both enjoy. Knowing there are people I can gift my fics to on AO3 actually helped me get a lot more done.


4. Links to character/pairing-specific prompts you might want to see me write. From comment-fic, fandom-stocking, kink memes, comment ficathons, that sorta thing, because I can’t be in all places at once.


5. A writing buddy/enabler. Someone to talk to about my TRC and Batman/DCU ideas. Would also be happy to play ping-pong with your ideas. Love doing that.


6. Comments on works that don't have comments yet. By which I mean all works out there, not only mine (though I'd be thrilled if anything spoke to you enough to leave one).


7. Permission to remix DCU or TRC fic.


8. Kindness and encouragement for other creative folk out there.

Omg that would be amazing! No specific size, I'd say 600x200 as a guideline, generally more squat than high :D
Fandoms could be Batman (comics, games like Arkham Knight or animated), Injustice (2 or comics), or The Raven Cycle (basically cars, ravens or enchanted forest aesthetic), but stocks are totally fine too :D I used just something random myself as you can see in the link.

As for text, either "Monthly Roundup" or "Monthly Fic Roundup" or just "Fic Roundup" - perhaps with "crookedspoon's" added, unless you're okay with other people using it. Thank you so much!

allbingo hosts a different fest each month. There is usually a public bingo card, or you can make your own with a generator. This month's theme is Apocalypse Bingo. Check out the hero and villain challenges, those would be SO AWESOME with Batman, who has basically the best Rogues' Gallery ever to ro. All the prompts you could ever want!

Oooh, that's an amazing theme! I don't know how much time I'll have to write random prompts this month or the next, but it's worth checking out. Thanks bunches! (And this is totally my bad for being unclear - I have enough prompts to write, I just never know who to pick for them. At comment-fic, the prompts are often character-specific which narrows it down and helps me get an idea.) :D;;

Okay, if you're willing to cross into another fandom, I suggest "Dr. Harley Quinnlan" and Dr. Linda Martin from Lucifer. That would make such awesome femslash. Or M/F/F if you throw in Batman or Lucifer or whomever. :D

Omg, I love Linda. Didn't enjoy the direction of the show too much, but the female friendship/femslash game was so strong, I loved that. Thanks so much for the suggestion, it's perfect! :D

You say you need a TRC writing buddy? I don't think our pairings line up that well - I mostly go for Ronan/Kavinsky, Ronan/Gansey - but I am More Than Happy to chat about other pairings/the series in general if you want to add me.

Ooh, but that's perfect! Ronan/Kavinsky and Ronan/Gansey and two of my faves, although I ship Kavinsky with almost anyone? I want to branch out later in the year when I have a bit more time. But most of my longer WIPs are Rovinsky and I'm super thrilled you'd want to chat with me about them :D

What is it you want to know?

In general terms, it is not yet as Batman-y as I would like. I've been trying on and off to get into the DC comics for years, but it's hard to find a starting point that won't make me go "wait, when did /that/ happen. More importantly, HOW did it happen??" (It doesn't help that I'm skeptical of the New 52, because I don't like what they've done with Harley Quinn.) So I've mostly been enjoying non-continuity things like The Animated Series, the Arkham games, the Injustice comics, Elseworlds like Thrillkiller, that sort of thing.

Indeed they did :D Though as mentioned above, I have yet to find a good starting point into the comics continuity ;; I like to know what's going and I like to get an unfiltered impression. What do you like about Batman? :D

I feel you about comic starting points. In my experience, there's never really going to be a good point so I just went, "Welp," and dove right into things. I fell out of weekly comic-reading because of uni but I managed to keep up with animated and live-action stuff, plus random standalone comics.

(Sidenote: In relation to this, an ongoing personal project of mine is making a list of Batfamily comic story arcs in chronological order orz)

What do you like about Batman? :D

Oh, man. I started out being, "Oh, it's cool he can keep up with everyone else even if he has no powers," plus he was my Type—serious and broody and all. And then I slowly got sucked into Batfamily and now I'm, "HE LOVES. HIS BABIES. HE'S JUST EMOTIONALLY CONSTIPATED." The tragic stuff just gets to me, but I also adore the lowkey family feels ;___;

I tried diving in once and read some titles - even the whole of the Infinite Crisis event - but the whole series-spanning events always threw me, so I stopped reading when Robin War happened and ignored comics for a while because uni was crazy. I'm trying to get back into Rebirth (currently enjoying RHATO a lot), but even there they're referencing stuff that happened earlier and I'm like, "WHEN? HOW?!" because while I can read summaries of the events it's never the same as actually reading them yourself, because you bring different things to them.

Now I'm referring to this handy guide, although it's a bit heavy on the Superman side, which I'm currently not too interested in because of my Batman backlog, but at least it gives me the option of picking any odd comic book and reading them in order.

(Ooh, sounds intersting! What is your earliest arc?)

Gosh yes, all the Batfam feels. It's so interesting how Batman is perceived as this stoic, unfeeling Übermensch by the mainstream, when he actually cares deeply, but doesn't know how to show it. <3

My first foray into comics was Blackest Night. I feel so-so about series-spanning events because while I find it interesting to see how the event affects the greater universe, there are just some characters I have zero interest in or know nothing about.

My earliest arc so far is 1977's Where Were You on the Night Batman Was Killed? (spans Batman V01 291–294).

The whole "gap moe" thing of the Übermensch vs. awkward dad kills me _(:3 」∠)_

I've bought Blackest Night and Sinestro Corps War, but haven't gotten around to reading them yet (since I keep thinking I ought to go back further). I actually like getting to know the characters I know nothing about yet, but yeah, through my latest foray into the miniseries The Golden Age, I noticed there are characters I really don't care about. lol Which I found interesting, because I care about a LOT of characters in the DCU even though I barely know them.

I'm not actually in the fandom, but that's a brilliant idea. That would probably be great motivation for me as well - I love writing for exchanges and my writing output is always down when I'm between people to write for.

That was the reason for me to start this and it has helped me tremendously. (I've thought about creating a spreadsheet or something allowing everyone to pitch in so that other writers could find someone to gift things to, but that project is a bit too overwhelming for me atm. Nor would I know how to spread it widely since I'm only a small voice and like to keep to myself most of the time.)

tl;dr - feel free to do the same! It really does help the output.
