[Ficlet] - Ambiguity (Kanda; PG)
Apr. 16th, 2008 01:11 pmFandom: D.Gray-man
Characters: Kanda, Lavi
Word Count: 215
Notes: Finally. My first in this fandom. I've been wanting to write at least something since last year, but(being a failure aside) there isn't really anything about this pairing that hasn't been written. *goes to grow mushrooms Tamaki-style*
Kanda hated Lavi with a passion. Lavi, the alias, hated what it stood for, what it implied, hinted at, but never disclosed. He hated Lavi braiding Kanda's hair, teasing him, grinning at him. Hated his frivolous nature. They had a mission, one that had to be completed successfully at all costs. The Order should not have to make do with Exorcists whose loyalties were ambiguous, who never took their calling seriously.
Kanda hated the way Lavi could twist himself to be cheerful without seeming forced, hated how he could lie with a straight face and you never knew what he meant by the words he did not say or if you just read too deeply behind the facade. He hated how easily Lavi could interpret him despite the wards he had set up and hated how undecipherable Lavi was despite his illusion of oppenness.
Kanda had long come to terms that faking and lying were second nature to Lavi, just as distrusting others was second nature to him. One day, Kanda told himself, one day he would like to peel off all layers Lavi had wrapped around himself, all aliases, if only to see if he could come to like the uncorrupted core hidden beneath the lies. If such a thing still existed within Lavi.
